HostGator, India Review – The experience so far…

Like Tweet Pin it Share Share Email

It has been almost a month since I moved my blog to HostGator(India)  [henceforth referred as HGI] hence, I thought it would be interesting to write a review about my experience(s) so far with the leading web hosting provider [at least in US].

Plan to suit different needs

HGI offers an interesting set of plans namely,

  • Hatchling Plan It starts at Rs 155/month and offers you Single Domain, Unlimited Disk Space,Unlimited Bandwidth & Shared SSL Cretificate.
  • Baby Plan It starts at Rs 251/month and offers you Unlimited Domains,Unlimited Disk Space,Unlimited Bandwidth & Shared SSL Certificate
  • Business Plan – It starts at Rs 380/month and offers you Unlimited Domains,Unlimited Disk Space,Unlimited Bandwidth & Free Private SSL and IP.

This blog is current in the “Hatchling Plan” and it is very easy to upgrade/downgrade to any plan. You can find more details about the plans here

Growing Competition [read GoDaddy]

With the advent of GoDaddy in India, HGI would face a tough competition from another monster which means that if the “good service”  is not maintained, than HGI customers have a better option in their hands !!! Hopefully, competition would bring the better off HGI.

LOCAL Support, much more than EMAIL

When I had to move my domain & content from my previous registrar to HGI, I ended up into many issues & questions mostly related to the Content. What if I screw-up something in the process of movement, what happens to my data etc. etc. Fortunately this guide came to my rescue for solving most of my issues but without HGI’s excellent support the migration would not have been smooth.

Their support system is excellent and their support executives are there REALLY to solve your issue be it phone [Toll Free – 1800-209-8833, Tolled – 253 6641555] or over chat. When they say support is 24/7, they are delivering what they have promised. Sometimes, I used to call them at weird times i.e. at 3:00 AM in the night and they gave the best possible support.

So if you are tired with bad support from your domain company than HGI is the right place to move your domain to !!!

Almost Zero Downtime

In almost a month’s time, I have seen that my site was down only for a couple of times and that too only for a few minutes.  The main reason for the downtime was that the HGI engineers were doing some optimization on the MySQL database & the best part is that they informed me in advance about the “expected downtime” 🙂

If you have any questions about HGI or if you are an existing HGI customer then do share your views by leaving a comment .

  • completely agree with you http://www.smartisystems.com

  • himanshu , i’m planning to sign up for a hosting account , would you suggest me to go for Hostgator or Bluehost ?

My blog will be hosted in wordpress , and since it is mainly focus on education , there will be spike traffic , so i want to know whether they handle high traffic , or else how much traffic your blog has and is that ok being at hostgator ?

another thing , i heard people complain about HGI in many forums , blogs , so whats in your point ?

  • @StudentsIdea:disqus Well, have not been keeping well hence replying late. I would suggest you go with Bluehost since from what I hear, it is reliable than HG. I have also read many complaints about HG but my journey has been good with them. Also, my blog is not one which gets very huge traffic so it makes sense to be on HG.

BTW, what are the plans for BH, is it cheaper than HG ?

    – Himanshu Sheth.

  • This is the worst hosting company that I have never seen before.

  • The Toll Free number does not work anymore

  • My website is down getmyration.com say thanks to hostgator.in and they did it without informing , now since morning i am requesting to start it but nobody knows a clue… technical support should be apology support as they they know anything. The turn around time for any complaint is “Soon” as given by technical support.I renewed myservices hoping things will be fine and paid 8200 just two days back……!!!!

  • Hi, I would say by far HostGator US is better than HGI . Its almost as if they are 2 different companies.

There is just one ( and only one ) reason you might want to take HGIndia instead of US :

In HG-US you have to pay through credit card and HGI there are several payment options making it easier for indians .
Especially in the if your client is an association, organi., govt-body where in they have to pay by cheque ( Its ok when your buying the first time and charge it to them but what will these clients do when they need to renew ?). The only option is then HGI …

  • i use hostgator dedicated server but not satisfied because hostgator services is very bed so please i am tired with hostgator so please not use hostgator. Hostgator agent is say’s next time no problem but next one or two day same problem created. i am feel discounting. https://www.krishoo.com

  • Hostgator.in now migrated to ResellerClub hosting. So Hostgator.in is
work as a mediator for ResellerClub. So you can’t purchase hosting from
Hostgator.in, you can purchase directly from ResellerClub. Avoid
    mediator charges.

  • Baby Plan offers only 40 GB disk space and 2,50,000 inodes. So technically you can’t host more than 2,50,000 files or 40 GB under baby plan. UNLIMITED is a big cheating

  • I’d suggest strongly to stay away from Hostgator India. We had a horrible experience with them and I would like everyone to be wary of what you are sigining up with. Here is my full expeirence with proofs – https://medium.com/@srikar/hostgator-india-review-a-hosting-nightmare-you-want-to-avoid-at-all-costs-17e3c32388e7#.7xfndaqws

    • Hey @srikar115:disqus Thanks for dropping by. Checked your blog and followed you on Medium. From your experience, it seems that for sites like mine (i.e. Blog) where downtime (at least it should not be huge) or security (as long as it is not compromised) matter but not to a huge extent, HG is fine. I had issues in migration, wordpress, DB, etc. and their staff was helpful. I just had one bad incident with them but later I realized it was my mistake.

I would do one thing, I would append your Blog URL to this post so that other HG customers and potential customers can get a fair idea as to when to go for their hosting (at least does not look good in dedicated hosting plan).

      Hope that is fine.
