Based on my experience on blogging and interactions with other bloggers, below are the top 5 reasons “Why bloggers are the best recruit for startups?”.
1. Bloggers are COURAGEOUS & OPEN MINDED
Blogging is a simple platform where you express your thoughts but the catch word here is “EXPRESS”.Blogs spread like fire and you never know who is reading your blog. But it always takes a lot of courage to go on this platform and being noticed/criticized.For example: One of my friend’s asked me “Can I blog?”.My reply was “Why not”.He told that “My communication skills are not so great and hence, people may treat me bad” but now “He has already started blogging and we already discuss about Blogs in our free time” At the end of the day, it takes courage to be criticized.
Being criticized, gives bloggers more COURAGE to EXPRESS and Courage is what Blogging is all about!!!
2. Bloggers always THINK OTHERWISE
It is very important to see the right things first and start finding defects in the same.Bloggers are expert critics ,be it a website/consumer electronic good/M&A/Business Stuff or any other topic. If a non-blogger would think in a direction A, Blogger would always try to think in a different direction[and also question Direction A], not to prove the other person wrong but to find a better solution.
So, Bloggers don’t only think WISE but they also think OTHERWISE !!!
3. Bloggers always BORN COMPETITORS
Bloggers always want to compete, first competing with themselves to come up with very good articles and second to compete with the competition.Have you ever heard conversation between bloggers. It starts with Technorati ranking, Alexa ranking and other such statistics.Blogging is no longer about writing , it is also about competition with the other bloggers especially if there is a Collaborative Blog.Check out the articles here and here, which proves the same.
So, Bloggers always want to be a CUT ABOVE THE REST and it is their general tendency on outlook to beat the competition.
4. Bloggers are GOOD RESEARCHERS
Ask anyone “Which Venture Capital(VC) has invested money in a startup XYZ” and most of the times, the guy who answers this question correctly is a Blogger. But what makes the Blogger get interested in this topic? It is his/her inbuilt curiosity TO KNOW MORE , which makes him/her to read about the same.
GOOD RESEARCH makes people more knowledgeable and come up with better results and this is a daily routine in a Blogger’s life!!!
5. Bloggers are EXCELLENT NETWORKERS
Blogging is all about coming out with good piece of information and networking with others. They love to network and meet other bloggers/non-bloggers and hear from them. You would find them in any Networking event either blogging in a corner or exchanging cards with other bloggers or doing some other stuff.Network of a blogger can help bring other people on board(who share the same passion) and this can help Bootstrapping or initial scaling up faster.
BLOGGING is nothing but NETWORKING and Bloggers know this the best!!!
In a nutshell:
Bloggers can wear Multiple hats and this is what make them ideal in a startup
Note:
If you have some other thoughts, kindly add them in the comments section and I would glad to add them in the article.
This idea also came to my mind. Its true. 🙂
Disagree with your views.
A person who cannot give 100% to what he is currently involved in, how can you expect commitment when he is a part of a start up (unless of course he has a stake in the start up).
Mr. Anonymous
You have your disagreements but how can you be so very confident that a person who cannot give 100% to what he is currently involved in cannot be committed. There may be many reasons for the person not being committed: like improper job environment, Insufficient salary, no recognition or may be no liking for the type of work. I have myself gone through this and and can say that a person does well only in the field of work s/he is comfortable with.
A good thought process & something I’d like to write soon upon.
However, IMHO being a best recruit for startup & being a good blogger may not necessarily have a connect.
Unless the blog is quite technical in nature it only reflects only the thought process of the person and there are many other things that are needed.
I’ve also seen some examples of bloggers who being good communicators have learnt the art of impressing others about their capabilities more than they are actually capable of.
So bloggers may be a good recruit option but not necessarily!
Hey,
@Mahesh : Good, that you agree on the same 🙂
@Anonymous : I guess that either you have worked with me or we have tried out a venture together 🙂 Anyways, “Commitment” is the first thing that is involved when we start working , irrespective of whether it is a startup or not.
It would be nice if you can elaborate on the statement “A person who cannot give 100% to what he is currently involved in”… Definitely if an attitude is not there, even a blogger cannot do well , be it a startup or a big company…Startup means stake and not salary(at least when it is in the initial phase).

Hello BlogGuru,
Good blog. Your blog looks very much professional. Very well organised. It clearly sees that you are giving much time behind it. It has some attraction in it. As my interest is not business, I will be reading your personnel blogs and some selected blogs only and may not comment on all blog.. Allow mw to do that ..
Anyways keep on blogging ..
Hey,
@Mr Anonymous 2 : Thanks for supporting me 🙂 Would have been grateful if you could have also mentioned your name.

Hey,
@Piyush : I definitely agree that a Good Blogger does not mean that (s)he would be best suited for a startup but it was from the point of research .
My article was not emphasizing upon the communication skills of the blogger.Hence, I guess the actual message of the article was misinterpreted (: Would love to see an article from you on the same topic since, you have already gone through this phase and can provide expert insights in the same.

Hey Himanshu,
Well, i do not see the connect here. A blogger (as in a person who maintains a blog) MAY be a good recruit for a startup for various other reasons.
A lot of points you mentioned apply to voracious blog readers and not necessarily to folks who write.
Besides, a startup may need only a few people good at networking/research. A larger chunk consists of people who actually do the coding/testing(From a S/W perspective) and may not have a thing to do in the blogosphere.
